The genealogy database, Ancestry.com, is expensive for personal use, but a library version may be available for free from your local public library. The Ancestry library database includes the searchable U.S. Census and many other people background resources. The San Francisco Public Library subscribes to the database but it can only be accessed from within the physical library.
