Database of the Day: WWII Unaccounted for Servicemembers

The Department of Defense, Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office, announced the completion of its 3 year project to create a comprehensive list of the missing WWII military servicemembers. The database is organized by military branch and the first letter of the servicemember’s last name. The data lists full name, service number, branch of service, rank and date of loss. If you want to search the entire dataset at once look at my search query for guidance. Keep in mind that searching via the search engine returns exact matches only. You can also use the Google site search to get a list of all WWII MIAs reported missing on a particular date.
