Attorney General opinions are the state’s chief law enforcement officer’s analysis of many issues, some of which have bearing on the work of journalists and private investigators. Last year, I wrote on the California Attorney General’s interpretation of the Public Records Act regarding release of mug shots. The California Attorney General releases monthly Opinions and a status report on questions of state law for which government agencies and legislators have asked for an interpretation.
